Those considering investing in French property will be interested to discover that the price of real estate in Paris and the city's surrounding areas have risen by almost a quarter (22.5%) in the last year alone.

This represents the biggest property price increase in two decades, while the average price per square metre of property in Paris is now 8,159 euro.

The 6th arrondissement, which fetches up to 11,690 euro per square metre, is now the most expensive area in Paris.

It has long been associated with the country's left-wing intellectuals and is home to the Jardin de Luxembourg and the shops of St. Germain des Pr?

The 19th arrondissement, meanwhile, is the city's cheapest, with houses in the area expected to fetch 6,350 euro per square metre.

House prices in France have steadily been rising each quarter, particularly in more sought after areas like Paris.

This year, French property prices have risen by an average of 6.8%, a 3.3% rise on last quarter.
