It seems most people looking to move up in the world would prefer to head Down Under, and would opt for new neighbours in Ramsay Street rather than Coronation Street, according to a new survey.
When asked what type of TV property is the best, the open-plan homes of the characters in Australian soap Neighbours were the most popular choice (40%).
And most people are not put off by the high death rate among villagers in Midsomer Murders, with 35% opting for the country cottages featured on the show.
While the terraced houses on the cobbled streets of Corrie only excited (8%) of those polled by Halifax, these type of homes are still as popular as those considering somewhere to live in the US. Only 8% said they would choose to invest in a Friends-style loft apartment, and the wide open spaces of ranches like Southfork in Dallas hold a similar appeal (8%).
For those who find their dream homes are not quite to the standard of their TV equivalents, the survey revealed that aspiring buyers are willing to carry out DIY, with only 19% wanting to move in to a house that requires no work.
