UK landlords need to be professional in the current economic climate, it has been stated.
Chairman of the Residential Landlords Association Alan Ward commented at the Avoid the Voids webinar that "I don't think there is any place at all for an amateur landlord - we have all got to be professional".
While acknowledging that some people have become "accidental" landlords, he noted that the legal responsibility that comes with such arrangements means that the matter has to be taken very seriously.
Mr Ward went on to advise that landlords remember their responsibility to maintain their portfolio and suggested that they collect the rent personally to ensure the same residents are still living at the property each month.
The current market is believed by many landlords to be ripe for expansion, new research has revealed.
LSL Property Services found that 28 per cent of landlords intend to increase their portfolios in the next year, while 48 per cent think now is a good time to invest in the buy-to-let sector.
