Investment's a beach in Paphos

Those looking to invest in Cyprus may discover very early on in their research that the country has plenty of variety. Not so much in its weather - this changes little from sunny day to sunny day - but in terms of its scenery, culture, archaeology and food. Thus visitors renting buy-to-let property on the island may enjoy snowy mountains and beaches, all kinds of food and a wide variety of historical ruins.

For investors near Pahos, it is definitely the archaeology and the beaches that take star billing, according to property firm TheMoveChannel.com.

Managing director of the firm Dan Johnson commented: "Known as the mythical birthplace of Aphrodite, Paphos is a charismatic city full of archaeological sites and Roman ruins. It's also blessed with spectacular beaches."

The site lists some beaches with excellent attributes, which are easily accessible from properties it is looking to sell. These include Coral Bay, a family friendly cresent shaped beach with "soft white sand that is caressed by calm glassy waters". Then there is Geroskipou Beach which is "sugar white" and popular for beach sports. Finally it notes the qualities of the shingle beach at Pissouri include facilities for water sports.

Such attractions will, of course, be just the sort of thing that those keen on tourist buy-to-let are looking for, offering variety and quality for tourists, who should for that reason be interested in staying in nearby property.

But to do that they must first get there and for investors in and around Paphos this may be the factor that they have the most to get excited about.

The reason for this, explained Aristo Developers, is the expansion of Paphos Airport. November 17th will see the opening of a new terminal, which, along with a runway extension, will raise the capacity of the airport.

Commenting on this, director of sales at Aristo Martin Pearce said: "The completion of the new terminal at Paphos airport, coupled with the existing daily scheduled flights from BA and Easyjet, is going to make Cyprus even more accessible as larger aircraft can now land at the site due to the extension of the runway." In addition to this, he noted, the local government is building a four-lane highway to ease traffic between the airport and Paphos itself, some ten miles away.

So Paphos, it seems, has plenty going for it. Good accessibility, a high standard of beaches and plenty of historical interest. For investors, it may offer one of the best prospects on the whole island.
